Snooping Around Gillette Castle Again Placed: 5-15-08 Placed By: Chuck and Amy Location: East Haddam Connecticut, Middlesex County Gillette Castle State Park, 67 River Road, East Haddam, CT Maybe this box should be listed as a temporary letterbox. A cowardly, low life thief has stolen many boxes at Gillette Castle. This box is our response to that sick and twisted, poor excuse for a human being. I never had a box here until I heard that they were being stolen. I then planted Snooping Around Gillette Castle with the help of Donutz, which has since been stolen. Now I have planted "Snooping Around Gillette Castle Again". When it is stolen, I will plant again. So to all you letterboxers, you might want to consider this a limited time letterbox. If it’s stolen, and you miss it, you can always get its replacement. Pull into the main entrance of Gillette Sate Park and drive .3 of a mile to turn into a parking area on the left. After parking, go to the entrance of the parking lot to the stop sign. From the stop sign, take a reading of 190 degrees and go to the closest end of a stone wall. From the end of the stone wall, take a reading of 350 degrees and go down the road in that direction until you come to a guard post on the southeast side of the road. From this guard post, take a reading of 255 degrees and go to an information sign. Stand in front of the sign and take a reading of 250 degrees. Go that direction to a wooden post. At the post take another reading of 250 degrees to see a slender metal post. Get to that post however you may. At that metal post, take a reading of 244 degrees and go to a wooden post. Take that path west. Stay on that path passing 3 trail signposts. After the 3rd trail signpost look for the first stump on the west side edge of the trail. Stop at that stump and take a reading of 124 degrees which points to a big maple tree. Get to it however you can. On the east side of the tree behind a rock is the "Snooping Around Gillette Castle Again" letterbox. Get back to your car the same way you came. CT DEP Gillette Castle Website: |
