Placed: 3-14-03 Take Rt. 195 in Mansfield Center to Clovermill Road. This will be a left hand turn. Follow this road to the gravel parking lot on the right. You can get printout of a trail map for this section of the park by clicking here. Schoolhouse Brook South. This map can be very handy on your hike. The hike to this letterbox is about ½ mile one way. There is uphill walking but nothing steep. The trails are mostly wide, easy to walk and well marked. Intersections in this park have wooden signposts.Cross the road and pass the boulders blocking the trail to vehicles. Proceed 30 steps to a Y. Go left here and follow Barrows trail. Walk alongside Barrows Pond’s NE shore. Come to a Y in the trail. Barrows Trail goes over a man made dam that was reinforced by beavers. Bear left and take the ski trail. You will come to cross a very small bridge over a small stream coming from Barrows Pond. Keep following the white blazed trees which mark the trail. Follow the trail uphill until you come to a four way intersection of paths. The paths that converge here are Heritage, Barrows and Ski Trail. Take a left here and proceed down Heritage trail. You will come to the intersection of Heritage Trail and a ski loop. At the sign post that says Heritage, go down Heritage Trail 88 steps. Here you should see 3 trees that have grown from 1. This tree is 9 feet off the trail on the left. Go to this tree and take a reading of 210 degrees. Walk off trail 32 steps to a wide bottomed tree. Go to the other side of this tree and find the Sasquatch letterbox. Return the way you came to return to your vehicle. Before you set out, please read the waiver of responsibility and disclaimer. |
